It’s time to create images about your brand that you are excited to share with the world.
Commercial photography is all about creating images for use in advertising, merchandising, product placement, brochures, menus, online shopping, and social media marketing. It’s the engaging, beautiful (and competitive) world of promoting a product or service with a photo. It’s all about using photography to send a message and using that message to make money. Some say a photo is worth 1000 words, we say a photo is worth 1000 sales.
Marketing your business is like a never ending political campaign, people believe what they see, not necessarily what they read or hear. Seeing truly is believing and companies that can create a connection through photography will be infinitely more successful than those that do not.
There are three main subsets of commercial photography: products, food, and advertising.
Products (ecommerce/website images)
How you show your products to consumers will make or break your sales. Amateur product photos are easy to spot, and make your website look like a hobby rather than a professional business. If you have a marketing team, we work with them to produce photos cohesive with your overall vision. If you don’t have a marketing team, we bring expertise and experience to the table to collaborate together to create the photos that deliver the look and feel that will appeal to your customers.
Types of Product Photography
• Pack Shots: If you’ve ever shopped on Amazon, you’re familiar with pack shot. These photos are crisp, clean, with a vivid image and a white background. They are the most common type of product photography because they are simple and effective. A pack shot is used in virtually every online shop or product catalog you’ve ever seen.
• Creative Product Display: This style is a little more involved than a pack shot and can include different backgrounds, shadows, reflection, lighting effects or dramatic angles. It may include more than one product, like an entire collection in one photo and may include accessories or additional elements to add to the ambience of the photo itself.
• Lifestyle Products: Sometimes a product needs an atmosphere to sell itself. We can create a setting indoor or outdoor to stage a product with the perfect background, lighting and props to create a coveted lifestyle photo showcasing a must-have product.

The Best Product Photos
While you can be innovative and creative while creating product photos, there are a few tricks of the trade we use every time to create the best images. All of the best product photos have these things in common:
1. A high-quality image – This is an absolute must-have. Our pictures are crystal clear (literally and figuratively).
2. Alternate Views – In order to recreate the experience of someone walking into a store and holding a product in their hand, you must provide alternate views so the product can be seen from every possible angle.
3. Multiple Colors – If you sell a product in multiple colors, we include each variation so customers don’t have to guess what shade of blue or red they are getting.
4. Zoom enabled – All of our product photos are zoom enabled to allow you to use them on their website and highlight key details in pure clarity.
5. Consistency – A professional website is consistent and the best way to do that is create a uniform look to each product photo. The best way to achieve this is by using the same photographer and the same techniques for each product photo.
Why you need it:
Effective product photography is all about sending a message and representing your brand. The right picture says exactly what you want to say without using a single word. Custom product photography is your brand ambassador and showcases what your company is all about. The best marketing materials use vivid, moving, and impactful photography to make you stand out.
Food
Food photography is all about delivering taste and smell through a digital photo. People love food pictures, that’s why it’s the most viral category on Pinterest and has millions of posts on Instagram. Food brings people together and is a huge draw for everyone from tourists to soccer moms. Drool-worthy photography means big business for restaurants, bakeries, hotels, grocery chains and more.
Using Food Photography
If you are in the food and beverage business, you need great photos. No amount of words can adequately describe a beautiful prime rib as well as a juicy photo. Most people base their food choices off of menu photos anyway, so you better be sure your signature cuisine is portrayed perfectly.
Restaurants: Our high-quality food images can be used in any publication from billboards to menus. You can use a variety of images to advertise daily specials or signature eats. While you may not need to photograph every item you offer, a selection of strategic photos can produce a big return on investment.
Food Trucks: What better way to advertise your food truck than with larger than life photos on the actual truck itself? Our photos are high quality and can be reproduced to virtually any size so your eats will draws a crowd from a mile away.
Catering: Be sure your customers can actually see the quality details you put into every catering order. We can do close up photos of individual options as well as location photos showing your catering spread in action.
Online Businesses: If you’re selling food online, imagery is key. Because you don’t have the added benefit of people seeing, smelling, or tasting your food beforehand, all purchase decisions are based on a single photo.
Bakeries: Put your bakery on the map with professional photos that show you are more than just an at-home bakery. Use your photos for advertising, flyers, menus, business cards, or even store-front displays.
The Best Food Photos
The best food photography can evoke the smell of smoked meat or give the taste of butter on fresh corn from a single photo. Our team of foodies bring essential skills to food photography.
• Plating: Plating is all about arranging food to give it the most appetizing appeal possible it adds character to plain foods or bring simplicity to artistic cuisine. Plating and presentation bring key elements together to add personality, ambience, and draw in an audience.
• Lighting: All good photography requires expert lighting, but food photography is a particularly tricky situation. Fluorescent kitchen lights are the enemy to appetizing food photos. We know how to use light to bring out your food’s natural beauty and enhance texture, color, and temperature.
• Composition: A good photograph has nothing to do with luck, it’s all about composition. That perfect drip of melting cheese, or juicy stacked burger is intentional design by talented food photographers who know how to frame food and choose angles that make your mouth water.
• Editing: Our post processing team is there to make your photos pop without making them look fake. A skilled food photographer knows how to take a beautiful picture, and then know how to make it even better without compromising the integrity of the product itself.
Why you need it:
In today’s foodie culture, professional food photography makes your food stand out against the rest. Approximately 50 percent of smartphone users take a photo involving food at least once a month. People love food, but they love beautiful food even more. Investing in great food photography is about drawing people in, showing them what they are missing, and tapping into cravings. It’s the best method to advertise your new menu, highlight signature eats, start a restaurant, sell baked goods online, or increase your current marketing.
Advertising
Advertising is all about images, not words. In today’s world, people are bombarded with images everywhere they go. An estimated 80 percent of all advertising campaigns use photography, as of 2011, according to Goldprints.com. Billboards on the highway, ads on the computer, and feeds in their pocket. The trick is to make sure your photos actually get noticed. A good advertisement shows who you are, what you do, and why it’s important. The best advertisement is one that is unmissable.
More than a photo
Professional advertising photography gives you more than a series of photos. It provides you with the services, support, vision, and experience you need for effective advertising.
• The best advertising photographer understands how to interpret and use art, color, light, and presentation, to present products in an engaging light that captures an audience with one glance and can motivate consumers to buy.
• Our photographers can also help with the creative process by collaborating with your marketing team and using their experience to help you through the creative process including storyboarding, test shoots, location scouting, and prop sourcing.
• We cover the nitty gritty aspects of advertising like property release, model contracts, image licensing, and insurance coverage so you don’t have to worry about legal jargon or contract issues.
• Today’s sharing and viral potential makes professional advertising much more cost effective. Some of the most effective advertising can cost very little in comparison to the exposure it gets through shares and likes on social media.
Effective Advertising
While copywriters and editors may spend countless hours creating a headline or lead that captures an audience, the image is the first thing your audience sees and the last thing they remember. Photography is not hiring someone to push a button, it’s an art form designed to serve both people and business.
• First Impressions: Great photographs show your best side, captivate an audience, and generates trust. It’s easy for people to click away and take pictures anytime, anywhere, but effective advertising is about creating the best first impression every single time.
• Define Yourself: Think about what you say through your pictures. Advertising should be clear, concise and inspiring. Photography can be creative, funny, or artistic, but above all they should be clear about the product or message.
• Be Memorable: Good images aren’t enough anymore. Effective advertising has to be memorable, shareable, unmissable. Seemingly simple effects like light, angles, and composition can be the difference.
